Upward Soccer Camp

During the second week of August (August 8-12) Glenbrook will once again offer a half-day soccer camp for children from Glenbrook and our surrounding neighbourhood.

Called “UPWARD” , this unique sports program was started in 1986 by a recreation minister named Caz McCaslin who began an UPWARD Basketball program at a church in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Emphasis was placed on Christlikeness and good sportsmanship, not championships. Changed hearts and lives were seen in both those who played basketball and those who administered the league. Over the last 23 years the program has expanded to include not just the original basketball but also flag football, cheerleading and soccer. In 2007 alone some 500,000 children participated in UPWARD programs at churches throughout North America.

“This will be the third consecutive summer that Glenbrook will offer the UPWARD camp and we have seen its popularity grow,” says Pastor Ian. “The first year we had 40 children registered and last year that number jumped to 56.” In order for the camp to be successful we need a large number of vol-unteers to serve in a variety of roles: coaches, registration staff, crafts and devotion teachers, snack volunteers, photography and first aid. If you can volunteer to help with this year’s camp, please contact the office, or sign-up in the foyer after Sunday worship service starting April 10th.

If you would like to register your children for the camp, forms will be available in May. The cost of the camp is $50 per child.

Glenbrook’s popular summer UPWARD Soccer Camp hosted 56 children August 2010. The half-day camp features soccer drills and games, arts and crafts, snack and a devotion. We’ll be back again August 8th to 12th, 2011!

If you would like your child/children registered, please call the Glenbrook office at 905-820-9860.  Cost: $50.

Enjoy a free breakfast and Save a life!

We’re warming up the pancake griddles and practicing our flipping technique…. now WE NEED YOU to join us on June 4th, 2011, from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. when Glenbrook is teaming up with local supermarket retailer Michael-Angelo’s to organize a free community breakfast to raise awareness of the chronic  shortage of organs and tissue in Ontario.  More than 1,600 Ontarians are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and thousands more are waiting for a tissue transplant.

One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and enhance the lives of up to 75 others through tissue donation. Every three days someone dies in Ontario waiting for a life-saving transplant.

Glenbrook’s family has been personally touched by the life-saving power of organ donation.  Perhaps you too know someone who is waiting….or someone who has given the gift of life.

Please join us on June 4th and learn more about organ donation!  You too can be a hero and save a life!

Nicaragua Hockey Bag Gift Donations

Nicaragua “Hockey Bag” Gift Donations

The Glenbrook Nicaragua Mission Team will be collecting donations of small items to give to infants, children, the hospitalised, and the needy in Nicaragua. We will be collecting items such as small toys, school supplies, toiletries, and climate appropriate clothing (clean and in good condition) until Sunday July 17th. A complete list of items can be found on the table just outside the entry to the sanctuary or if you would like to be part of this and don’t attend Glenbrook, please contact by an email.

We are trying to fill 10 hockey bags with donations, so please be generous and also encourage schoolmates, co-workers, friends, and family to contribute to this very worthy cause.
