Pre-planning Seminar
Presented by Michael Kelly, Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens,
April 22nd, 11:30 a.m.
Many of us have purchased life insurance and prepared our wills to help our loved ones carry on after we die. But perhaps the most loving gesture of all is a pre-arranged funeral and burial or cremation. With very little effort you can pre-arrange and pre-pay to protect those you love from the financial and emotional strain of planning a funeral while grieving a loss.
Join Michael Kelly on April 22nd at 11:30 a.m. – Glenbrook Sanctuary (following 10:00 a.m. service) to learn more.

HOPE For Peel’s Homeless

Did you know that homelessness exists in Peel region? In downtown Toronto you may encounter the homeless sleeping on heating vents or in doorways. But in Peel the homeless are far less visible. Many live in their cars or vans. “Tent” cities exist in some wooded areas while yet others couch “surf” from friend to friend. It is hard to believe that there are approximately 115,000 people in Peel living below the poverty line. This represents more than 10% of the region’s population. (Source: Portraits of Peel).
This lent, as we reflect on what it is to be Christians and strive to be imitators of Christ in word and deed, our Mission and Outreach team is organizing “HOPEbags for the Homeless” drive. During the month of March we would ask anyone who is interested to drop off the following at the church:
Toiletries/Basic Necessities:
- Shampoo
- conditioner
- Toothbrushes/toothpaste
- bar soap
- Razors
- shaving cream
- Deodorant
- Combs/brushes
- small pack kleenex
- socks
- Bottled water and Granola bars
AND/OR
- Baby Supplies
- Diapers, Baby formula
Erwin Reid, Manager of Peel’s Mobile Outreach team is excited about Glenbrook’s partnership to bring hope to the homeless. Please consider supporting this worthwhile outreach intiative.

Life as a Wycliffe Bible Translator
Special Presentation featuring Sean Allison, March 28th, 7:30 p.m.
Imagine being transferred to a new country for a work assignment. You’ve never been there before and don’t know the culture, customs and traditions of the locals. Neither do you speak a word of their language. More challenging still you find that the local language has never been written down, nor does it have its own alphabet. Your job is to meet and befriend your neighbours and begin the painstaking process of learning the language and its unique syntax and expressions so that a written alphabet can be developed. Next you will undertake to translate a document of close to 775,000 words into this language so that the locals may begin to study and learn it. Oh yes, but you’ll need to teach them to read their language first!
What I’ve just described may sound like a work of fiction, but in fact this is a reality for the close to 6000 Wycliffe Bible translators who presently work in 90 countries around the globe. Some 300 million people around the world are still without scriptures in their native language. These 300 million people represent approximately 2,100 language groups. Wycliffe has a vision to have bible translation underway in every language that needs one by the year 2025.
Learn more about the challenges and joys of working in the field of Bible translation on Wednesday, March 28th at 7:30 p.m. when Sean Allison and his two oldest children Josiah (16) and Nate (14) will visit Glenbrook for a special presentation. The Allison family (which also includes wife Lezlie and children Drew (7) and Annie (4) ) began their adventure as Bible translators in 1997.

Pancake & Sausage Supper, February 21st
How does a night off from cooking sound? Take a break from kitchen chores and delight the kids with breakfast food for supper as we celebrate “Shrove Tuesday” on February 21st. The evening runs from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for children under 12 years and free for those 5 years and under.
It will be a great opportunity to re-connect with your family over a meal and to meet some of your neighbours in the process.
Why pancakes? Shrove Tuesday is the last night before Lent begins. Lent is the 40-day period prior to Easter, which this year falls on April 8th. Years ago Lent was a time when people gave up rich food, so on Shrove Tuesday pancakes were eaten because they contain fat, butter and eggs, all of which were forbidden during Lent. Happily, the Christian church no longer observes such a strict rule, but the pancake tradition remains. Because hey – who doesn’t love a good pancake, and kids love any excuse to eat a yummy breakfast food for dinner!
