About

Rev. Glenn & Linda Inglis serve in Malawi as missionaries of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Glenn is the Executive Director of the Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission (BSHDC) in Malawi.  He is working to strengthen the Synod’s relief and development programs, develop sound management and accounting systems, promote leadership development, and strengthen and renew relations with partners and donors.

Linda Inglis works with The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian’s Blantyre Synod as Visitor Coordinator.  She coordinates visits for people from various church partners around the world.  Working with the Synod General Secretary and various Synod committees, Linda helps to plan programs that will engage visitors effectively in the mission work of the Synod.

Through the BSHDC Glenn has begun the pilot phase of a new Maternal and Reproductive Health Program, which is vital in Malawi due to high maternal and infant mortality rates. He is working to decentralize operations at BSHDC and help equip people at the community level to define and implement local responses to local needs.  Glenn also assists with rural development where the emphasis has moved from programs requiring seeds and fertilizer to conservation farming.  This helps people make best use of their land, water and wood in the current environment.

Glenn has developed a Synod HIV and AIDS policy as well as a workplace policy for presbyteries and congregations. Prevention is still key, but the new slogan ‘AIDS is not a moral issue—it is a virus!’ frames HIV/AIDS as a public health crisis, helping lessen the discrimination.  Glenn helps run three emergency food and recovery programs in the Balaka region where people suffer due to drought and poverty.

Linda has seen a growing demand from Church partners, congregations and individuals who want to participate in some of the life and work of the Blantyre Synod.  She believes that mission visits help people to witness the wonderful faith and joy of Christians in Malawi and awaken them to the realities faced by everyday people in one of the world’s poorest countries.

Linda is an active volunteer and leader in a program for people with disabilities, called Tidzalerana.  She is also Chair of the Open Arms Board, a residential program for infants and toddlers (often AIDS orphans) who have been abandoned or lack adequate family support.

Glenn & Linda’s ministry is supported through our gifts to Presbyterians Sharing.
