Special Appeal for the Philippines: On the evening of December 16, 2011, Tropical Storm Washi made landfall in the Philippines, resulting in flash floods which have left thousands homeless and hungry as houses and crops were swept away. Home have beendestroyed and entire communities are struggling to cope without food orelectricity. According to the ACT Alliance, over 400 families were only days from harvest before their crops were washed away. The United Nationsreports that over 146,550 people have been directly affected by this disaster. PWSD is accepting donations to assist the victims of flooding and will beworking through local partners to provide a timely and effective response to those in need.
