Presbyterian Church Women (PCW) at St. Paul’s is a combination of what was once the Ladies’ Aid which historically raised money for the local church by dinners, sales and catering and the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) which studied and prayed for foreign mission fields and raised money for them mostly through voluntary donations.  The Ladies’ Aid instituted the secret pal/ “loyal friend” experience which involves the giving of gifts and performing random acts of kindness to a person chosen yearly by lot at our December meeting.

The Ladies Aid/PCW has also been an integral part of the Garden Party (virtually a church fair) held annually on the 4th Saturday in July. PCW gathers monthly (except January and February) on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m. for refreshments, (of course – this is Amherst Island after all!), devotions, fellowship, planning for up-coming events and occasionally a speaker or a work bee. At a normal meeting we usually number 9-12 but all women of the church are considered members of PCW and we would warmly welcome any to our meetings at any time. We greatly appreciate the help provided by many non-meeting-attenders with our various projects [ e.g. the July 1st Strawberry Social, the Christmas lunch and sale (a.k.a. bazaar) and catering for funerals, anniversaries, significant birthdays etc.] But if meetings are not your “thing” please be assured that your participation in or assistance with any of our activities is gratefully received. Plus, you can be a part of the Loyal Friend group whether you attend meetings or church services!
