Interactive Art Extravaganza! CANCELLED

A day of exploration of “what is important to you” through a variety of media in a creative, safe and welcoming environment. Pick a morning and an afternoon workshop. It can be meditative, energizing or just plain fun. Meet some new people. Enjoy a yummy lunch (included). Discover the talent you didn’t know you had.

Workshop Choices

All workshops will be run in the morning and afternoon.

  1. Spirit Painting with Suzanne Valois. Paint intuitively in a relaxed and meditative environment. Let go! Play and contemplate. The process in itself helps access the spirit. You will be awe inspired by the results. Discover more about yourself and those around you. No experience required.
  2. Story telling through Collage. Combine mark making, image transfer, collage and text to explore how stories are embedded in things that we often throw away or forget to share. Bring paper remnants of your life, black and white photocopies of friends and loved ones, or any painting/ drawing materials you like.
  3. Story telling through Dolls with Karen Bell. Material dolls is a comfortable way to explore “self” the comforts, beliefs and thoughts we keep to ourselves, our most inner secrets…and those that we share with others…and then we “celebrate” who are! This is your story. No tape…no sewing is required.
  4. Wearable art with Lynne Haven. Want to create an art piece you could wear? Bring an old vest, shirt or old jeans and transform it into something you can wear with pride. Haven’t got it – try a thrift shop. Bring scissors, pins, needles, thread, and anything that appeals to your sense of imagination (e.g. buttons, beads, laces, wire, gears, etc.) . Get inspired and a good start on creating your own unique garment. Sewing skills are not required but are useful.
  5. iPAD art. How does the use of technology shape what we value? Express yourself through the creative process using your iPad. Please bring your own iPad. Basic knowledge of iPad app’s is required.
  6. Zentangle with Susan Stott-Hood. A meditative art form that creates beautiful images by drawing patterns. If you can draw a line and a circle, then you can do Zentangle. Come and learn some patterns and discover the relaxing and calming effect of this art form. No experience required.
  7. Reflections of Light with Carolyn Boyer. An introduction to the life and artistry of Quebec artist Marcelle Ferron will help you identify personally meaningful colours and shapes. In an environment supporting individual reflection, you will select pieces of stained glass to glue onto clear glass creating a piece of art ready to hang.
  8. Capturing life moments on your Smartphone with Greg Rodrigo. Learn to use your iPhone (or smartphone) to take photos while exploring how the images we choose to take reflect what is important in our lives. Learn some basic photography concepts and techniques. Some apps will also be demonstrated. Please bring your iPhone or smartphone with you.
