Ministry

We offer an active choir and Sunday School, an AMS (Atlantic Mission Society) group; a ladies Circle of Friends and other groups. Pre-COVID, we held  weekly coffee hour after service and hope to resume that in the new year. Volunteers provide light refreshments to enjoy with tea and coffee for a time of fellowship and an opportunity to catch up with friends.

In the community we are a large supporter (with food and volunteers) of our local Food Bank.  We provide worship services in five area nursing homes.  Four days a week, yoga classes are offered in the building.  A large century old building, we are blessed with a gifted team of volunteer workers who are constantly fixing or updating our facility, an activity that has in itself become a ministry to each other in many ways.

On March 2, 2019, the Rev. Andrew MacDonald, was inducted as new minister of First Church.  His first service was March 3, 2019.  Rev. MacDonald was born in New Glasgow and raised in Lorne, Pictou County.  He attended Stellarton High School, St. Francis Xavier University and McGill University graduating with a Master of Divinity.  He comes to us from the Pastoral Charge of Little Narrows and Whycocomagh.  We are pleased to welcome him and his wife, Lori and their two young daughters, Natalie and Bridget.

Rev. MacDonald’s office hours will be Tuesday – Thursday from 10:00am-2:00pm, or by appointment.
