Welcome & Call to Worship
Prayer for peace:
Heavenly Father, Your Son taught us “Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called Children of God.” In this time of great worry, we fervently pray that Your Holy Spirit sustain all the people of Ukraine to be vigilant and dedicated to peace and justice. Grant their leaders wisdom and prudence. Yet, may they also have the strength and perseverance to defend their land from all adversity and foreign attacks. Help us all to live according to your Divine Will. O God, our Father, in the days to come, we beseech you to comfort the suffering, heal the wounded, and accept the souls of the faithful departed into Your Heavenly Kingdom. We ask also that the Most Holy Mother of God extend her blessed mantle of protection over our Ukraine. And father we now pray for our brothers and sisters in the middle east.. God of Mercy and Compassion, of grace and reconciliation , pour your power upon all your children in the middle east. Let hatred be turned to love, fear to trust, despair to hope, oppression to liberation, that violent encounters may be replaced by loving embraces, and peace and justice could be experienced by all. Amen

Mission Moment Sunday Dec 17
With support from Presbyterians Sharing, The Well Church (Mississauga) provides a welcoming space for those who identify as a third culture community; that is, one that is neither the culture of mostly immigrant parents nor the dominant culture of Canadian society. In a post-pandemic world, the ministry has decided to re-set their focus around spiritual formation, in everything from small groups to children’s ministry, retreats and conferences. They are also training leaders to be elders with spiritual formation at the centre. By focusing on spiritual formation and becoming more Christ-like, the congregation has not only grown closer as a community, but they also feel better equipped to share their personal stories of hope and transformation with friends and neighbours.

L: They shall be given to you.

Hymn: #141 – Good Christians, all rejoice

PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

Confession:

We are incredibly stubborn, O Lord. We have entered the season in which Your Light has been given to the world, your blessings have been poured out on the world, and yet all we can think about is our own problems, our own needs, our own desires. Help us to desire you, Lord. Help us to yearn for your presence. Pour your baptismal waters over us again, cleansing us from our self-pity and arrogance. Again, let us receive the blessings offered in creation, in the birth and baptism of Jesus, and in the ministry of the saints of light. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

PCCWeb Presence for Congregations and Ministries

A website extends the ministry and mission of a congregation beyond church walls, giving members the ability to make the most of their church experience and allowing visitors the opportunity to learn more about a congregation. A great church website should share details about your congregation’s ministry, highlight news and events, offer online worship services, and let people know about upcoming activities, mission projects and fundraisers. Your gifts to Presbyterians Sharing equip congregations and groups of the PCC with simple and easily maintained websites through PCCWeb—a free web hosting and technical support service provided by the Communications Office. To learn more, visit presbyterian.ca/pccweb.

Prayer
We give thanks for the Garu Community-Based Rehabilitation program in Ghana, which provides training to people with disabilities, helping ensure they have the necessary resources to lead healthy and productive lives.

Mission Moment – Halidu’s Shop Equips Others
In Ghana, Halidu manages a prosperous and bustling training centre where he teaches kente weaving and dressmaking. When Halidu was young, he developed a sore that led to his leg being amputated. During his recovery, Halidu enrolled in a Presbyterian World Service & Development-supported program that equips people with disabilities with skills to obtain a livelihood. During workshops, he learned vocational skills that included weaving, tailoring and dressmaking. Today, Halidu is using what he learned during his recovery to lead a healthy, productive life and run a successful business.

World Literacy Day (September 8)
In Afghanistan, cultural norms dictate that men often play a more central role in public life, while women and girls have more significant roles in the home. Because of this, many girls do not have equal access to education. Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D), with the support of local partners, has been working to provide girls with access to high quality education. Through summer camps, girls are informed about human rights, gender, sex, and leadership and democracy. Sadaf and Nargi participated in this summer camp, where they were inspired and excited about the great things they could achieve in the future. For the two girls, access to fair and equal education is vital for their goals and dreams; it is also essential to allow their communities to flourish.

40 Years of Partnership in Mauritius In September of 2019, the Presbyterian Church of Mauritius (PCM) celebrated a milestone: the 40th anniversary of their autonomy from the Church of Scotland. The Presbyterian Church in Canada’s partnership with PCM began in 1981 with the appointment of the Rev. Brian Crosby and continued through the years with 11 Canadian Presbyterians serving as ministers and music consultants. Today, our partnership continues through annual grants sent to Formation Biblique et Théologique à Maurice (FBTM), a theological training program for over 1,700 Christians. FBTM’s director, the Rev. Maurice Davantin, gratefully acknowledges that, “Due to the generosity of the PCC, FBTM has been able to continue its ministry in spreading the study of God’s Words among Christians in Mauritius.” Presbyterians Sharing works with mission partners around the world

Building Healthy Communities (International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples) In Guatemala, 30-year-old Marta Crisóstomo didn’t know what having a clean kitchen and a balanced diet had to do with her son’s development and her family’s health. But an unclean kitchen meant that Marta’s family could be exposed to diseases such as diarrhea and intestinal infections. Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D)-supported workshops are empowering Indigenous communities like Marta’s to improve their diets and health by sharing knowledge about cleanliness and how to prepare the nutritious food they are growing. The project has given Marta and the women in her community a sense of improved self-esteem. They now use the skills they have learned in their everyday lives—boosting their confidence and improving their families’ overall health. PWS&D empowers Indigenous communities.

Making Space for a New Generation of Believers
The Well Church in Mississauga, Ont., started with a group of only 13 people. They were drawn together by their deep love of Jesus and a desire to share that love with others. Inspired by a vision to become a welcoming space for second-generation immigrants, they developed a style of evangelism and worship that spoke to those they desired to reach. Since the congregation started worshipping together three years ago, their community has grown and has become a home for many young people who had strayed from the church. Please pray for the Well Church and the many other churches in The Presbyterian Church in Canada that are making space for a new generation of believers. Keeping Communities Hygienic
Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D) helps ensure that countries affected by natural disasters have access to proper sanitation. In South Sudan, continuous rainfall that caused massive floods washed away homes and food supplies of hundreds of thousands of people. Waterways and latrines were also destroyed. Without proper sanitation, the chance of contracting deadly diseases like cholera and typhoid are much higher. With PWS&D’s support, 9,000 men and women are accessing clean water and adequate sanitation. Hygiene kits are distributed to families, along with training on improved hygiene practices. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation is vital to keep communities as healthy as possible while allowing them to continue to thrive.

Drastic, unpredictable weather changes caused by climate change have left many families food insecure. Many are not able to produce enough nutritious food for their families to consume. Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D) works with local partners to bring nutrition to those who are suffering from malnourishment. Life-saving mobile clinics have been established to detect and treat malnutrition. Since the project began, 3,400 children have been treated, giving them the chance to regain their strength, meet developmental milestones and lead a healthy life.

PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Forgiving God, you show us way to act and to live but we stray from you and choose other paths. Forgive us the sins of our souls and the sins of our bodies, the sins we remember and the sins we have found convenient to forget, the sins we have attempted to hide and the sins we were once proud to commit; the sins we have done to please ourselves, and the sins we have done to please others. Liberate us from the past we cannot change; give us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ who is the light of the world, amen.

We confess that we find your medicine hard to swallow. The quick fixes of this world are so much more pleasant, leaving us free to go back to our usual routines. But your medicine is powerful. PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
This is the season of turning. We are called on this journey to turn our lives to the Lord, to turn away from all those things which have harmed us and others; to separate ourselves from actions and attitudes that demean and destroy. It is far too easy for us to sink into the mire of self-pity and self-serving attitudes, wondering why everything isn’t coming our way. We want comfort, contentment, no stress, no struggle. Yet our lives are filled with stress and discontent. We hurt, Lord. We hurt in our bodies and our souls. We hurt in our relationships with others. How we must try your patience! We don’t want to be like this – we want to feel the warmth of your love, the freedom of your spirit, the joy of serving you. Forgive us for our selfishness and stupidity. Heal us. For we ask these things in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

Welcome & Call to Worship
Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best —
As above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes. ( message version of the Lord’s prayer)

PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Loving God, how you shower us with blessings, and how often we take them for granted. Forgive us. We have so much to share – of ourselves and of our material resources – yet we remain closed and constrained. Forgive us. We sense your presence and our own potential within us, yet we are indifferent, distracted and inertia bound. We come before you today confessing the sin of racism in our country, our church and in ourselves. Forgive us for our part in it, for the ways we have contributed to the oppression of others whether knowingly or unknowingly. We want to be different and for our nation to be different, but it is hard when we face the injustice of institutions as well as the prejudice in ourselves. Help us to see the reality of racism and bigotry wherever it exists and to have the courage to challenge it. Through your Holy Spirit, may we be given the grace and power to change within ourselves and also, to join with others to do the work of love and justice in the world; to move toward the goal of bringing an end to racism. Forgive us, God. Remind us to be intentionally grateful, open to caring and sharing, and passionate about how we live our lives. Amen

Matthew 28:16-20 & 2 Corinthians 13:11
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” 11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Gracious and loving God, we find it difficult at times to place our trust in you. We stock the food pantries, but brush aside those who hunger for friendship. We give our hand-me-downs away, but overlook those whose hopes have been stripped away. We glad-hand those just like us, but turn a deaf ear to our neighbors who ‘talk differently.’ Forgive us, Hope of the ages. You persistently search for us in the side streets of the world, gathering us up and bringing us home, so we may be drenched in the waters of your bottomless pool of forgiveness, watched over by your Child, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

CALL TO WORSHIP:
John 14:15-21: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Gracious and loving God, we find it difficult at times to place our trust in you. Too often we look at the world, and see only violence, pain, destruction, and signs of hopelessness and despair. Too often we rely on our own strength, our own plans, our own devices, rather than trusting in your hand to hold us,
your love to sustain us, and your wisdom to see us through. Forgive us, Holy One. Help us turn to you when we are lost, that we might find our way home. Help us navigate the treacherous waters of this world, that we might experience your abundant grace, mercy, and love. Help us put our trust in you,
that the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus may shine in our lives for all to see. Amen.

Welcome
CALL TO WORSHIP:
We worship the God who inhabits our world
and indwells our lives.
We need not look up to find God,
we need only to look around:
within ourselves,
beyond ourselves,
into the eyes of another.
We need not listen for a distant thunder to find God,
we need only listen to the music of life,
the words of children,
the questions of the curious,
the rhythm of a heartbeat.
We worship the God who inhabits our world
and who indwells our lives.
(adapted from a Prayer from PCUSA)
PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

Lord, forgive us when we doubt your mercy and your love. We are so caught up in getting everything that we want; and we want it all right now. We have trouble waiting and remembering that it is in the waiting that we might hear your voice. It is difficult for us to believe that we can be fruitful, good soil for your words and work. We find excuses not to be attentive to you, but to focus instead on our own desires. Slow us down, Lord. Remind us again of your mercy and your love; for we offer this in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

Open our hearts, our spirits, our souls to comprehend your word and follow you faithfully. AMEN.

PRAYER OF ADORATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Lord, sometimes we are confused. We hear the bad news continually shouted on TV, radio, in the newspapers, magazines. The whole world seems to be shrieking in pain. Innocent people are being destroyed by the whims of the wicked. Disease and pestilence reign supreme in too many parts of the world. We turn an indifferent ear to the cries of others, often because we are so overwhelmed by the needs and feel helpless in the face of such chaos. We close our eyes. We walk away, often crossing over to the side of self-importance and indifference because we are afraid to become involved. Our society is quick to sue and slow to heal. We succumb to those pressures in our fear. Help us, O Lord. Heal our spirits as well as our bodies. Open our hearts and our eyes to see you, O Christ, that we may be empowered to service rather than apathy. Forgive us, Lord, forgive us. Make us ready to truly become your disciples. For we ask these things in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Merciful God, we need you to lead us through the days ahead. We want everything to be wonderful; for you to conquer all those things that threaten us and our peace. We want you to do what we direct. Forgive us, Lord, when we place our fears and ignorance before your love. Help us to look again at the many ways in which we can be a blessing to others, through serving them and you. Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin. Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen

Welcome

Call to Worship:

Holy One, we come in remembrance of you. We seek the cup of the new covenant. The bread of forgiveness reminds us of your love. Let us join in praise and thanksgiving. Wash us clean, O Lord.

Prayer of Adoration, Confession and Assurance of Pardon:

Holy One, we come to your table expectantly. Remind us of the healing power of your love. We long to seek your protection from our fears and our sins. But far too often, we try to brave our problems alone. We lay before you our burdens, tattered hopes and shattered dreams. We remember the terrible sacrifice you suffered for us, and are humbled by your fierce love— your word made flesh, given for us, that we might live. Love us, forgive us, and protect us O God. Amen.

Prayer of Confession and Assurance –

Living God, our lives are so full, and we keep filling them. Activities, knowledge, resume-builders, work, fun, stuff—more, more, more seems to be our mantra. There is no space for us to live or move or to just be. We confess that you are often unknown to us, for we cannot see how to fit you in. We confess that we like to feel important, and with you there is no power or status to be earned. We confess that we have more than our share of most things, yet still we want. Forgive our gluttony and arrogance of mind, body, and spirit, and turn us again to see your face. Silence in us every voice but your own, and make yourself known to us again this day. Amen.

Good news story

Call to Worship:

Prayer of Adoration, Confession and Assurance of Pardon:

God of new hope, Easter morning takes us by surprise again and again.  Easter replaces the doubt and despair that have been so rooted in our lives. We confess our failures, God. Forgive us, God, when we see the risks of discipleship and deny you and turn away.  Forgive us, God, when we lose hope and then wash our hands of responsibility.  Forgive us, God, when we serve our own interests first and abandon those who have least and need us the most.  As the brilliance of Easter morning shines into the dark corners of our lives, help us to see and acknowledge our failings, and repent and be washed in your forgiveness.  In Jesus’ name we pray; amen.
