Meet the Minister

Rev. Laura Hargrove, B HEc., M. Div.

Laua Hargrove

Rev. Laura Hargrove was born in Port Alberni, BC. She grew up in Duncan, BC attending school there and graduating from Cowichan Senior Secondary School. Her post secondary education included three years studying science at Malaspina College before transferring to the University of British Columbia for a degree in Home Economics. Also, a year at the Vancouver School of Theology. During her studies, she spent four summers working in the mill at Crofton and two summers at a fishing resort.

After VST, Laura spent several years in Ontario, working for Falconbridge Limited, as an administrative assistant. She was a Ruling Elder on Session at Armour Heights Presbyterian Church when she answered a call to the ministry of word and sacraments as a Teaching Elder. She served in student ministries at Knox Bayfield, Ontario and Kerarapon Parish within the Presbytery of Ngong Hills, East Africa.

After graduating from Knox College, University of Toronto (Master of Divinity), Laura served in Interim Ministry at Knox Bobcaygeon, Ontario and at Westminster-St. Paul’s, Guelph, Ontario. She returned to Port Alberni in June 2005 to begin full-time ministry at Knox Presbyterian Church.  Laura partners iwth other ministers in the Alberni Valley to provide spiritual care at West Caost General Hospital as well as writing the Faith Matters column in the Alberni Valley Times several times a year.  In addition, she volunteers as chaplain to the Palliative Care team with Home and Community Care.  Our minister also serves the Presbyterian Church in Canada as Clerk of the Presbytery of Vancouver Island.

Her hobbies include: music, gardening, needlecraft and reading.  She has an interest in food security and food literacy and enjoys walking in the woods with her dog Ginger.
