Presbyterians?

Who are Presbyterians?

The Presbyterian Church in Canada traces its roots back to the Protestant Reformation of the 15th and 16th Centuries that was influenced by John Calvin of Switzerland and John Knox of Scotland.

Today we have churches from coast to coast, diverse in membership and yet united in Christ and His message.

As well as holding to the major beliefs as outlined in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, we emphasize:

  • God has revealed Himself through his creation, through the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, and most fully in Jesus the Christ.
  • God takes the initiative in calling us to believe in him, to be part of his church and in calling us to serve others in His name.
  • Jesus Christ demands that we come to a decision to accept or reject his gift of salvation through his suffering and death for our sins against God and one another.
  • The Bible has been given to us by the inspiration of God to be the rule of faith and life, relying on the Holy Spirit, we seek the application of God’s word for our time.
  • As God sent Christ to us, so Christ sends us into the world. We are here to proclaim Christ in word and deed. Mission is service, a call to help people in need and to permeate all of life with the compassion of God.
