Gifts of Ministry

“each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift…the gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:7, 11-12)

We gather today to build up the Body of Christ as his beloved congregation known as Memorial Presbyterian Church. Christ himself has equipped us to carry out this great commission: He has given us, his sisters and brothers, the variety of spiritual gifts necessary to sustain His own ministry in this community.

The people of the Rocky Mountain House area hunger for the word of truth that only Christ brings; we speak the truth in love to them. They thirst for love and acceptance; they find the peace of Christ in us. They long for beauty and grace; we sing the Lord’s song with our whole heart. They yearn for healing and hope; we touch them with our outreaching arms. They dream of forgiveness and fulfillment; we show them the way of the Cross.

We are called to take up our Cross and follow him. And we are called to take up our Cross and lead others to Him. But, we feel so insecure. We seem so small to take on such a big responsibility. We tend to be like Moses and beg God to find someone who would be better at it. God’s response is to send us a shepherd.

“until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ”. (Ephesians 4:13)
