Rich in History

The full YIM team with our hosts from the Asante Presbytery out front of the Manhyia Palace Museum

We spent the day in Kumasi (May 3) by first visiting the Asante Presbytery office where we received a very warm welcome. After introductions were made we were accompanied over to the Manhyia Palace Museum, whish was once home to the Asante tribes Chiefs.

Our tour guide supplied us with a wealth of knowledge on the Asante Kingdom that is still influential in Ghana today. The Asante tribe were peaceful, but quick to defend themselves when the need occurred, which led to their being named the porcupine warriors (peaceful when not prodded, but the spikes come out when provoked).

It was a wonderful experience learning some of their history, their triumphs and struggles and also witnessing the pride and respect the people of Kumasi have for their history. So far here in Ghana I have witnessed the strength and determination of the people, their strong faith, and their openness and welcoming nature to all they meet. In the face of so many challenges they remain steadfast in their patience in waiting for the light to shine in on the darkness.
