What the world needs

Rev. Dr. McLelland wrote: “Instead of assuming that Christianity is the centre, with other religions moving around it as error, what if we see them all as moving around God, with their own varieties of faith and truth?” and “Is there the same truth in their [Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism] devotion as in ours?”

If we see Christianity as just another satellite, we are in serious danger of becoming like the adulterous Israel of the Old Testament who absorbed other gods and for whom the prophets wailed.

I was also reminded of James 4, 4-5: “Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you suppose that it is for nothing that the scripture says, ‘God yearns jealously for the spirit that he has made to dwell in us.’?”

What the world needs is Jesus. He is the center. He is the only way; he told us that.
