Reluctance To Change

Re A Cry to a Dying Denomination, June

I can’t agree more with the points raised in David’s letter.

It saddens me to hear leaders in our denomination suggest that we embrace a palliative care approach to our churches and denomination. I wonder what Jesus would say to that point?

Would leaders, both clergy and lay, react differently if we started from the position/ question of: What if God has already removed His blessing from our denomination? Each and every year our attendance, membership numbers decrease while the average age of the denomination increases. According to Stats Canada, we’re the smallest denomination, the oldest and have the greatest decline.

I do think there are people in our denomination who are crying out for change and are willing to try new ways of reaching the unreached. Unfortunately, they get frustrated by constantly running into brick walls of reluctance to change and so they eventually go elsewhere. How sad.
