Was a Useful Purpose Served?

Re Minister Suspended, April
As a long – time subscriber to the Record, I was extremely disappointed to find this article and the editorial, A Probabilities Test. I believe this coverage smacks of secular rather than Christian journalism.
In your editorial, you state your responsibility to help church administration and courts, “be as transparent as possible to the wider church.” How do you reconcile the function of session as a closed court, wherein highly sensitive issues are discussed with love and compassion, with the Record’s decision to publish this article, whatever the facts may be, so extensively? What useful purpose is served? Of course, allegations must be investigated but could not the findings remain confidential so that the family does not suffer from undue publicity in the midst of inconclusive results? And, for any readers who judge without proof, remember the words of Jesus “… cast the first stone.”
