Of Cats and Dogs

I’m a cat lover.   I hope that won’t alienate any of my readers but I have loved so many cats.  Some years ago when I had the opportunity to visit the house I grew up in, there was a cat sitting in the kitchen window…it made the visit perfect, for cats had always lived in that house.

Little did we know at that time I was quite allergic to them.  I was constantly sick with a “cold”…now I know why.

I like dogs too.  For that matter one of my favorite memories is of “Freckles”, a little adorable spaniel who too caused sneezes and sniffles and had to be given to a friend and was cried about for weeks by both me and my two daughters.

There is a fair amount of discussion about animals in the Bible and God seems to care about them too.  And they are used in so many ways… a donkey to carry our Saviour in a palm parade and to speak and admonish Baalam for striking him.

And even the sparrows of the air are seen as precious in God’s eyes.

Most families have deep memories of their pets whether the four legged variety or the two winged species.  My sister had two birds and they had completely different personalities. One was tidy and sang sweetly, the other was messy and refused to warble.

But back to the cats.  The variety is endless and they too have different personalities but I must admit I never met a cat I didn’t like.

This morning on TV they mentioned how this cat had saved his master’s life.  Seems the man was a very sound sleeper and couldn’t hear someone banging on his apartment door.  It wasn’t until his cat scratched at his face that he woke up and realized there was smoke in the room.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call it an “Angel Cat”, but I have to admit God used it in a unique way to save its master.

So to all those who have this phobia about cats, please remember that God can use this furry feline in wonderful ways and I really think He loves cats too!
