I am a child of God

I am a child of God!  I have known this truth for a long time, but last week it hit me in a new way. I had the privilege of attending the “Stewards by Design” conference from May 2-5 which was held at the YMCA Geneva Park Conference Centre near Orillia.  You can see what a beautiful setting it is from the photo.

I also had the privilege of worshipping without playing. For me, that is a rare experience and one that almost always feeds my soul.  Last week was no exception. The praise team from Chippawa PC did a wonderful job of leading us in the worship music. There was a good blend of well-known hymns and newer music all presented well and with some repetition over the 4 days of the conference. Any timDSC01521e I have a chance to learn a new piece of worship music, I am happy.  It’s also good for me to occasionally learn something by listening and not having the music in front of me.

One of the new pieces I learned was “All For You” by Brenton Brown. The lyrics remind us that whether we’re singing or praying, kneeling or lifting a hand in praise, we gather to worship God. What we do is “All for You”.  There’s a phrase in the song which says, “Father, this is all for You. How Your children long to bless Your heart.” I’m a musician who is passionate about church music and I love when a song gives me some small insight about God. As we were singing that, I had an image come to mind of my son as a young boy bringing me some thing he had made or drawn. Maybe it was a fistful of dandelions. What it was doesn’t really matter.  He wanted to please me and the little bit of question in his eyes, even though he was smiling, led me to reassure him. “Oh, how beautiful! Thank you. I love you, sweetie.”

Can you imagine that as God’s response to the praise we offer each time we gather to worship?

Father, this is all for You. How Your children long to bless Your heart.
