In 2013, our Sunday school children embarked on a mission to provide an alpaca as a means of improving the quality of life for a deserving family in the South American Andes mountains. The children engaged in various fundraising projects throughout the year and by late summer had reached their goal of $250, which resulted in an alpaca finding its way to a needy family in Ecuador. They will care for the animal, and it will help improve the family’s income by producing wool for shearing, which will ultimately made into saleable garments.

In recognition of our children’s achievement they were treated to an outing at KickinBack Alpaca Ranch at nearby Markdale. While at the ranch the children were allowed to gently interact with the alpacas, and were also given demonstrations on how to card and spin the wool.  As a token of appreciation, the children presented a picture of our church to our hosts, Carolyn and Doug Lilleyman.

We arrived at the ranch with 13 kids accompanied by eight adults and left with 21 kids of all ages smiling from ear to ear!
