First, Portage la Prairie, Man.

The congregation of First Presbyterian Church in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba has been knitting and crocheting “Comfort Dolls” for AIDS orphans for the past four and a half years. The knitted dolls are included with medical supplies which are shipped to needy countries via ICROSS CANADA – a relief agency based in Vancouver, B.C. This organization uses these little knitted dolls as packing material, instead of bubble wrap, to protect delicate vials of HIV/AIDS drugs and medical instruments.

Once the medical supplies are unpacked, the “comfort dolls” are distributed to the children in the community, most of whom are orphans of AIDS victims. Our current shipment includes 202 comfort dolls as well as 166 infant caps to bring our project grand total to 1798 dolls and 569 caps since October 2009.
