Tuesday, July 8, 2014 — Let Us Go Up

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord….” (Micah 4:2)

I live near the border of two states, and at the top of Pound Mountain (Virginia), this view greets a traveler coming back into Kentucky. It’s pretty spectacular, and never fails to awaken appreciation for the wonders of God’s creation. It’s one of my favorite spots, among many favorite vistas.

The prophet writes of the last days, when peoples will stream to the mountain of the Lord. In ancient times, high places were often utilized for defenses; they could be defended easily in times of warfare. But the prophet writes of a time of peace, when peoples will walk in God’s ways, when weapons will no longer be necessary, when everyone will have enough and no one will be afraid. Instead of defenses, the mountain is the signal, the light, the beacon that proclaims this new day. And everyone streams to this great good news. May this day come soon. Blessings on your day.
