Wednesday, July 23, 2014 — Too Heavenly Minded

Psalm 89: 3-4 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to my servant David:
‘I will establish your descendants forever,
and build your throne for all generations.”

There is an expression that many have quoted to me that goes something like “too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.” This is, of course, the temptation for anyone who spends any amount of time in academia. But I find God’s Spirit is present to me most strongly in Church kitchens washing or drying the dishes. If that is the highest calling God gives to me, then I would praise God all of my days and be thankful.

God known to us in the life of Jesus Christ: We give you thanks for security and protection, and where security and protection are not, we give you thanks for presence and comfort. We pray for people who are given power and responsibility in this world that they would steward these gifts wisely and that your will be ever done on and in this world. Amen
