Saturday, July 26, 2014 — Death Shall Have No More Dominion

Daniel 3: 27-28a And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king’s counsellors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men; the hair of their heads was not singed, their tunics were not harmed, and not even the smell of fire came from them. Nebuchadnezzar said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants who trusted in him.

And death shall have no more dominion. I used to believe that the Word of God and the reign of God was for the living. Because it shouldn’t be about “pie-in-the-sky-by-and-by.” While it is all about how we live in this world, it’s also about the hope and the promise that death will never have the final word. This is the promise that helps us to labor in the vineyard. This promise is not just the strength we need to carry on, it is the very impetus that makes us work toward God’s vision of a better world. Thanks be to God.

God of Hope: We give you thanks that we are the people of the resurrection. Help us to see in the promise of a new earth how we can help that earth to be born with the help and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen
