Acts 2: 1-3 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.  And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.  Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.

What do we mean when we use the word “church?” Especially when our “church” is virtual and exists as tiny 0s and 1s on a server in a big rack of severs sitting in a closet at an indeterminate location. My definition of “church” has become the place where the Holy Spirit is present and working for God in the world. In this sense, God is inscrutable. For how are we to know for certain where the Holy Spirit is present? One way is to look where healing is present and prisoners are set free. There we find “church.”

God present in Your Holy Spirit: Thank you for people who are willing to gather in your name and revisit the Holy Story. Thank you for people who are willing to gather and create justice and peace. Help us to join with the Holy Spirit to do your work. Help us to see where the Holy Spirit is present and to be your people day and night, week after week, world without end. Amen
