Friday, January 2, 2014 — Hymn of the Nativity

Christmas is celebrated by people on every continent, and every people has special music, food and customs. Not everyone celebrates the same way, or at the same time. Foods, music, decorations, church services – are often quite different. Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas Day on January 7; this morning, the ”call to prayer” is the Byzantine Hymn of the Nativity, chanted by Nader Hajjar, St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, in Ottawa. – and we remember the many Christians throughout the Middle East, many of whom are struggling with persecution and violence.
