On the edge G.A. 138!

My name is Angela J. Cluney, and this is my second Assembly as a Commissioner. For some lucky reason, I am destined to attend Ontario Assemblies—first Ottawa and now Oshawa. I am originally from the Presbytery of Pictou in Nova Scotia, but I am now a member of the Presbytery of East Toronto. I currently serve the congregation of Leaside Presbyterian Church as the Associate Minister of Christian Education.

I arrived at this Assembly after many long, busy months of ministry, and I look forward to my days away from the everyday church life I have been leading. I hope to be refreshed with the presence of God during my time here. I also truly anticipate meeting God not only at the edge of the waters but I hope we will go beyond the edge. I pray we will be brought to a time of crossing where we will meet with God just as the banner for the 138th Assembly reads: “God is at the Crossing—take a step in faith”.

The Rev. Dr. Rick Horst, Moderator of the 137th General Assembly in his sermon at our opening worship reminded us that we are a loving growing church of Jesus Christ and we are invited to share in mission together. As through our mission journey, we will meet Jesus Christ. He encouraged us to give part of ourselves away as it is in these moments, we will truly discover Jesus. And, through these acts of mercy, we will share Jesus Christ with others.

So here we are… my friends in Christ. It is time to share Jesus Christ with others and what better place to start to do that then right here at the 138th General Assembly. It is time for our church to give part of ourselves away and to be the loving, growing church of Jesus Christ out in our world! I pray that as an Assembly, we will be able to be on the edge and that we will be able to meet God at the crossing!

I hope to see you there!
