Thursday, February 13, 2014 — Memory

During Bible Study last week one of the men picked up a crochet hook and some yarn and began to create this lovely square. When I asked him how he learned to crochet, he said he had never actually done it before but was remembering what his mother’s hands used to do with yarn and a crochet hook when he was a little boy. Though he had not seen his mother for years, the memory of her hands making her children blankets stayed with him and I could see he was feeling their warmth with each stitch he made.

What story will your hands tell this day?

God of all Creation
As the sun gives light to the earth
Bless my hands
that your light might shine on all I do this day
Guide my fingers
that all I do might point to the love you so freely give
and make loose my grasp
that I might receive the miracle of your grace and mercy
through the hands of all you send to touch my life ,
in the name of the Holy One whose hands lift me in hope
Amen.
