Psalm 30: 5b “For God’s anger is but for a moment; God’s favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy come with the morning.”

The Desert Ammas were women, “spiritual mothers,” of the 4th and 5th centuries, who went to the deserts of Egypt in order to live a life more closely connected to God. Amma Syncletica said, “Anger is not good. If you are angry, do not allow it to remain with you all day.” (By Way of the Desert, Bernard Bangley, ed., 2007, Paraclete Press).

As you recall the things that make you weep with anger, anchor yourself in the promise of joy to come.

Breath Prayer:

(In) Anger, a moment
(Out) God’s favor, a lifetime.
