Tuesday, June 24, 2014 — Sparrow Song

I woke to the sounds of a sparrow singing in the tree outside my window. I listened for a bit, mildly annoyed at being woken up so early. Then the singing stopped. I was worried about the bird. Then a frenzy of bird song erupted, startling me out of a doze. I realized the parent bird had returned to feed hungry babies. I am grateful for the many ways I am fed in my faith, and able to share it with others. Sorry about the non-inclusive language in the hymn, but it reflects the theology of when it was written.

Morning Prayer
Unconditionally loving Creator, we give thanks for the promise of a new day. Whatever it brings, we know we do not walk alone, you are our Constant Companion. Feed us with your Word, let us marvel at Creation and may we be listening for the Spirit’s whispering in our ear. Bless our fellow pilgrims on our journey. Amen.
