Saturday, August 30, 2014 — Beauty and Horror

There are hummingbirds, cardinals and a woodpecker at the feeders this morning. It is quiet except for the constant cricket song and it is peaceful in the dawn’s humidity. Thank you, God, for creating such beauty.

The morning news tell quite a different story. Hamas executed 18 human beings. A four-year old boy also died because of that war. The ebola virus is still out of control. More people dying.

O God of life, amidst such beauty there is so much darkness, evil, and fear. Grant us your wisdom, courage and love to be channels of your peace in this world that you so love. May we all experience your goodness and rest in your grace. Help us in our struggle to fully believe that your way is the way of truth and life. Help us to live out of that belief a life that imitates the life of Jesus. Keep us on the narrow path that leads to life. In the blessed name of Jesus we pray, amen.
