Fifty Years for Flora House

Winnipeg Inner City Missions organized a community festival day on July 20 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Flora House. Established in 1964 by the Women’s Missionary Society in the north end of Winnipeg’s inner city core, Flora House serves the diverse needs of neighbourhood children and youth and their families.

Warren Whittaker, a diaconal minister of the PCC, was director for 30 years until his retirement in 2011. Rev. Margaret Mullin, executive director of WICM, which also includes Anishinabe Place of Hope and Anishinabe Fellowship Centre, assumed this position since that time.

Flora House programs help children and youth with their school work, provide after-school activities and snacks, and help them become well balanced people spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically giving them opportunities to help them break the cycles of poverty and violence that are so prominent in their neighbourhood. For more on Winnipeg Inner City Missions visit www.wicm.ca. —WICM
