Thursday: Prayer Through Stitching

The dramaturgy of the Kunas is performed through the molas, the sacraments they sew and wear. They are enacted through words and gestures, rattles and drums, flutes and dancing. They are prayed by Kuna women stitching patterns on cloth by the light of the kerosene lamp.

Prayer: I remember the prayers you have written under every leaf and rock, and in the patterns you have created in the vastness of the oceans and the vaulted sky. I send you greetings Mother, and ask that you return strength to my hands and my feet and bless my family who are now asleep.
