Presbyterian Support Nepal

Just over two weeks after a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, a second quake, this one with a magnitude of 7.3, hit on May 12.

At press time, more than 8,000 people were confirmed dead and over 250,000 homes had been destroyed. With the region’s monsoon season fast approaching, the United Nations and international relief agencies are making urgent appeals for support.

Presbyterian World Service & Development responded through its partnership with ACT Alliance, a coalition of more than 140 churches and faith-based organizations, to provide emergency food, shelter and other items, as well as psycho-social support. Water and sanitation have also been priorities, said Karen Bokma, PWS&D’s communications coordinator.

As of May 7, Presbyterians had pitched in $58,000 for PWS&D’s work in Nepal. You can donate through your church, online, or by calling 1-800-619-7301 x291.
