St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, a small community congregation in Sackville, N.B, had much to celebrate on Sunday, September 18 as they marked the completion of their Elevator Project with a service of dedication. For a number of years the congregation has desired to make the church accessible and while some options have been attempted and many considered, the congregation came to the unanimous decision at the February 2016 annual congregational meeting to install a vertical platform lift. After the congregational meeting pledges were made and significant donations started to come in. The project was supported in part by a bequest to the Presbyterian Church in Canada and by a grant from the Presbytery of New Brunswick. These grants certainly helped, yet the success of this project depended greatly on the sacrificial giving of the people in this small congregation. Art Miller, who is chair of the board and supervised the project, remarked, “The congregation has given generously to the project and we are delighted that our building is now accessible to those who would have difficulty navigating the stairs up to the sanctuary or down to the basement.” Pauline Atkinson took part in the celebration by presenting the elevator on behalf of the congregation requesting that it be dedicated to the glory of God.
