Smithville, ON

A commemorative service was held for a very special member of Smithville, Ont., last November: the Opus 107 organ, built by Edward Lye and Sons and installed in the church in 1891. In its original condition, after being overhauled once in 1982, the organ continues to be a part of worship. This July it was cited as a Category A historical instrument by the Royal Canadian College of Organists. Thomas Shilcock, holding the citation, was the guest organist. The former and current organists, Laurie Merritt and Marlene Penman also played. Members of the Lye family were present, as the congregation also celebrated its 124th anniversary.
