It was a family affair at St. George’s, River John, N.S., last Christmas when eight members of the Sutherland family were baptised. Alexander Sutherland, the clan’s grandfather, is a long-time member of St. George’s and approached Rev. Jeanette Fleischer about being baptized on behalf of his partner, Sandy Ashby. When Fleischer visited the couple later to discuss it further, she was greeted by the grandchildren, who are not regular attendees but also wanted to receive the sacrament. The mother of two of the boys has also since been baptized and became a member of the church at Easter. “It was a real joy, it was a wonderful day,” said Fleischer. “It was truly exciting that morning.” Pictured (l-r) are: Sara Sutherland, Ashley Sutherland, Julie Sutherland, Rev.
