Over 30 bags of garbage were collected, including composting and recycling materials during the weekend to Spring Clean Richmond. The weekend events were coordinated by the Richmond Village Association Inc. It started with volunteers and local businesses spearheaded by Scotiabank on Friday to take to the streets and beautify our village. The cleaning spree continued with individuals and families as they cleaned their own neighbourhoods. On Sunday, volunteers gathered together following local church services and took to the streets in small groups armed with garbage bags, recycling containers, gloves and purpose to further clean our village. Lunch was hosted by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church who organized Sunday’s tidy up efforts. All volunteers were invited to join in chili, hotdogs, and cake in celebration of upcoming earth day and their dedicated efforts to beautifying their community. This weekend project is part of the Spring Cleaning of Ottawa which runs from April 15 to May 15, 2009.
