Knox, Oakville, Ont.

On April 25, Knox Oakville celebrated some amazing vocal milestones. Long-service medals were presented to eight members of the Knox Senior Choir. These dedicated singers have a combined service of 316 years in music ministry. The medal is an innovation for the Knox Senior Choir. The design features the Coat of Arms of the Royal School of Church Music on the front (obverse) of the medal. It includes an open book (representing learning), five bars (representing the music stave), a lyre (one of the oldest musical instruments) and six nightingales (representing singers). The Latin inscription “Psallam spiritu et mente” is a quotation from I Corinthians meaning, “I will sing with spirit and understanding.” The reverse side of the medal features the individual’s name, the number of years of their music ministry, and “Knox Presbyterian Church, Oakville.” Pam Leonard, a member of the Knox congregation, purchased ribbon during a trip to Wales and then sewed the ribbon on each medal. Recipients wear the medals each Sunday while the raise their voices in worship. Seated: Bill Browne (50 years) Left to Right: Rev.
