First, Portage la Prairie, Man.

First Presbyterian Church in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba is involved in a simple knitting project which brings comfort to orphans in Africa and in disaster areas of the world.

Members of the congregation are knitting little “Comfort Dolls” which are sent to ICROSS CANADA to be included in shipments of medical supplies sent to Africa. Instead of using packing peanuts or bubble wrap to protect delicate vials of HIV/Aids drugs and medical instruments, these little knitted dolls are used as packing material. Once the medical supplies are unpacked, the “comfort dolls” are distributed to the children in the community, most of whom are orphans of Aids victims.

Ninety-Seven of the Portage Comfort Dolls have recently been included in a disaster relief shipment to Haiti. The attached photo shows an additional 141 dolls ready to be mailed to ICROSS CANADA.
