May 14: Temporary Goodbyes

The morning meant departure from the beauty of Likhubula House and the ever-present vision of Mount Mulanje. It was time to return to the city, and to face a new cultural challenge.

For two nights the youth would be hosted in the homes of other young people from Blantyre and its surrounding areas. Each would go to a separate house, and attend services at separate churches on Sunday. It would force them beyond their now comfortable group of friends, and some faced it with growing trepidation.

It was also an occasion for sadness.  The five youth who had become friends and travel companions would be returning to their homes.

One by one the Canadians were plucked from Grace Bandawe, some by cars and others by a mini-bus already crammed with rowdy young people, all off on unique adventures.
