You’re still here. On earth. What difference will your life make? Elie Wiesel wrote something that changed me. He is a Holocaust survivor who saw […]
It seems funny in a way to prepare for Lent as it is a season of preparation itself. Nevertheless we prepare to prepare. We think […]
These are lines from Berry’s Sabbath 1999 poems, but let them ring in Lent this year. Again we resume the long lesson of small things. The simple lesson that takes us years of circling to finally work into the fabric of our hearts. Maybe it takes all the years. Maybe that’s the point.
I’ve spoken before about ‘Wonder Bread’ Jesus and my wish that churches would move to a heartier selection. I’m not altogether certain if I’ve mentioned […]
Yesterday was grey here. The kind of grey that looms over you and has you wondering if spring will ever come. Our city has been […]
Maybe it’s just my greedy, foody nature, but I love the language here. Isaiah sings to my soul in this passage. This is a prophet for me. I hear this call to an attitude of abundance away from the perspective of poverty. Instead of being bound by want, and worried about cost, we’re called here to enjoy and see that there is plenty
For the Lent Project today we were supposed to pray the Lord’s Prayer. Personally I find this a great technique when I’m distracted like I am on days […]
A little over three years ago my son entered the world in a rather dramatic way having not grown half of his diaphragm in the […]

Yesterday I went to church. Hardly surprising I know but while I was there I saw various gifts being used, people doing ministry and it […]
This is one of those passages that makes for an excellent children’s story. I must confess, I do like getting a chance to share my chicken impression with a congregation. Not every day, eh? But it’s memorable as a message, too. Jesus subverting gender stereotypes and comparing himself to a nurturing mother. Jesus stretching out his arms to lovingly gather us in. And memorable, too, the glimpse of Palm Sunday ahead.
Light streamed in and danced on the table through the stained glass that hangs in my kitchen this morning. It has been much longed for […]
I’ve had the song “What does the Lord require of you?” running through my head all day. After my early morning reading for The Lent Project this […]
I’ve been thinking a lot about my call lately. Wondering if I should write the events down as I remember them so that someday when […]
Today was a hard day for my boy. His morning began at 5:20am and he’s feeling it. This week has been a week of amazing […]
Many of you will eat pancakes today. Why? Tomorrow some people will have ashes on their foreheads. Huh? And some of you will “give up” […]
The first ever Lent Project for From Ministry to Motherhood is complete. Hallelujah! It’s nothing short of a miracle. This project was different, more […]
