New Beginnings

Mett your Meet your Assessor, The Reverend Doctor J. Mark Lewis

Mark will celebrate the fortieth Anniversary of his ordination in May
of this year. He has ministered to congregations in Nova Scotia and
Ontario. Mark recently retired after serving for nearly thirteen years
as the Lead Minister at St. Andrew’s, Kitchener. Following retirement
Mark was trained as a Church Coach and Assessor by Hope
Partnership for Missional Transformation. Mark has also recently
completed the Missional Leadership Course at St. Andrew’s Hall at the
Vancouver School of Theology. Mark has served the National Church
in many capacities, including as Conveyor of the Long-Range Planning
Committee, The Assembly Council, and the Ecumenical and Interfaith
Committee. Under Mark’s guidance the work of the National
Ecumenical Committee was expanded to include an Interfaith
mandate. Mark was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in
Canada in 2002. In 2014 Knox College at the University of Toronto
conferred on Mark the Honorary Degree Doctor of Divinity. In
retirement Mark has become really excited about missionary
transformation and is finding great joy and meaning in his work with
New Beginnings. For the past three years Mark has served as Interim-
Moderator and Stated-Supply at St. Paul’s, Hamilton, and Minister
Emeries at Mac nab Street, Hamilton.
Mark will also celebrate his fortieth wedding anniversary in
May. Mark and Donna have three adult children who live in
Edinburgh, Amsterdam, and Hamilton.
