Hand-Drumming

Hand-Drumming For Everyone…
…High School Age and Over

(Or, Learning to Listen While Making Music)
More than just keepers of the beat or a fun way to work out your frustrations, Drums were one of the earliest forms of long distance communication. That meant folks had to listen to listen closely to hear what was being shared. Playing in a bad also calls for the drummer to listen carefully so that they can contribute to the music along with their fellow musicians.
Listening is also a vital skill for all of us; when we listen carefully and closely, we not only learn from the speaker, but learn about them as well.
Hand-Drumming For Everyone is a free, six-week, one hour long course that teaches the rudimentary aspects of hand-drumming along with how to listen to the drum, and through the drum, to the player as well. It’s open to everyone High School age and up. Students are asked to bring their own drum, or a large plastic pail. No metal pots, please!
