Our Minister

Our Minister, Rev. David Berkers  lives in Belleville with his wife, Ann, and their cat Lula. He was raised in a Roman Catholic household on a farm in Eastern Ontario. When his mother sought a deeper relationship with God, she found that fulfillment at an evangelical Pentecostal church. David and his brother were subsequently enrolled in a Christian Reform school.

While attending a Youth Convention at Queen’s University in 1980, David made a personal commitment to serve God, and he felt an initial call to ministry. Thus, post-secondary education took place at Pentecostal Bible College in Peterborough and featured his third year at a Bible College in Nairobi, Kenya, earning a Bachelor of Theology degree.

David moved to Belleville for employment, initially at Sears Distribution Warehouse, and active service in a cell-based Pentecostal church. After three years, the church restructured and changed its focus. This left David looking for a new church, and he found it at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in Belleville. He became a member and later a ruling elder.

With his wife, Ann’s, encouragement to build on his theological education, David inquired about ministry in the Presbyterian Church in Canada. What followed was further study at both Queen’s University and Knox College, with David gaining his Master of Divinity degree. He also acquired a wealth of experience through professors, fellow students and placements, particularly in youth work, and pastoral care with seniors.

David was ordained on the 29th of June 2014 in Belleville and began his ministry with St. Andrew’s Gananoque on 1st July 2014. As a well-rounded individual, he enjoys golfing, fishing, gardening, reading, camping, and spending quality time with family and friends.
