About

The congregation of St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Toney River had its beginnings in the homes of the early settlers as far back as 1817 when Rev. Donald Allan Fraser from Scotland arrived in nearby Pictou (Pictou County being known as “The Birthplace of New Scotland”, and Pictou being ranked amongst Canadian Living’s top 20 small towns to visit in Canada”) to establish Kirk Congregations in the County. In 1822, he extended his ministry to include Toney River where the Cape John Congregation was organized. After becoming a 2-point pastoral charge with St. George’s in River John in 1925, the congregation was eventually renamed St. David’s, Toney River in 1929.

The present church was completed in 1854. And today, with a number of improvements made throughout its history, it continues to serve the people of the area and is the only church in Toney River. The basement of the church provides for versatility, containing a hall, a well-equipped kitchen, and a nursery for young children. A parking lot sits affront the church, while a small cemetery (maintained by St. David’s, but no longer in use) is located behind the building.
