Historical Sketch

St. Giles Presbyterian Church was formed in 1925 by the non-concurring Presbyterians of St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church (which became St. Matthew-Wesley United Church). The continuing congregation passed a resolution indicating their intent on April 25, 1925. Shortly after, the name St. Giles was chosen by the congregation. The congregation purchased the old Methodist church building from St. Matthew-Wesley United Church in 1925.

The first minister to be inducted following Union was the Rev. W. E. Davies who began his ministry at St. Giles on June 30, 1927. The old church building was sold and a new building was begun in 1974. The new building was dedicated and opened September 14, 1975. It is patterned after Warden United Church in Glace Bay.
