Feed the Bears Backpack Program
When Hanwell Park Academy opened its doors in September 2022, a group of Hanwell residents and organizations came together to find ways to support students and families facing food insecurity and financial challenges.

- The Hanwell Community Church provides snacks to students throughout the week and helps support the Fredericton Community Kitchen’s provision of lunch for HPA students.
- St. James and friends of Hanwell host a quarterly breakfast at St. James, with all profits supporting the Feed the Bears Backpack Program—an initiative we launched to provide students with food and toiletries to take home each weekend and during school breaks, ensuring they have essentials to share with their families.
Together, we continue to explore ways to support students and staff at Hanwell Park Academy. For example, we provided additional support to families at Christmas, and we remain committed to identifying new opportunities to make a difference.
