Who We Are

Disciples of Christ
Empowered by the Spirit
Glorifying God
and
Rejoicing in Service!

Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit, we proclaim the love and good news of Jesus Christ through our words and actions.

As a Reformed church, we rely on the truth and inspiration of Scriptures for God’s guidance into the future—a future that we approach with wonder and anticipation, knowing God is with us.

As worshipping communities joyfully celebrating the sacraments of communion and baptism , we are supported, strengthened and equipped to share the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.  Worship and love and care of neighbour go hand in hand.

What Does “Presbyterian” Mean?

The name Presbyterian comes from the Greek word presbuteros, meaning “elder.” Our churches are led by sessions, which is comprised of elders elected by the congregation, working together with ministers to guide the church in faith and mission. This shared leadership reflects our trust that God equips people in community to serve and discern faithfully.

This shared leadership extends throughout our denomination. Within each congregation, there is a session comprised of a teaching elder (usually referred to as ministers or pastors) and ruling elders (usually referred to as elders) who, together, share in the care and oversight of the ministry of Christ at every level of our church.

The way we organize ourselves is rooted in Scripture and affirms our belief in connection—not just with God, but with one another. Our churches are part of a wider structure that encourages accountability, shared mission, and prayerful decision-making. Each congregation belongs to a presbytery, a regional body of ministers and elders. Presbyteries are part of synods, and all are connected through the national General Assembly. This structure ensures that leadership is not held by one person alone, but is shared by those called and equipped by the Holy Spirit to serve.
