About

The Presbyterian mission work began in Creston when the Rev. Alexander Dunn came to Moyie and conducted worship in 1900 at the Creston school house. The dedication and hard work of Sara Ellen Dow, the first white female settler, and Dr. C.B Henderson, the towns first medical doctor, were instrumental in the establishment of the congregation and St. Stephens Presbyterian Church. The church was built and dedicated in 1909. The land on which the church is situated was purchased by the Ladies’ Aid for $75. The church stands on a beautiful hillside, overlooking the Creston Valley. Roland Roebuck designed the church hall, which was built through the donations of generous members, adherents and friends of the congregation, in 1959. It is our understanding that St. Stephens Church is the oldest wooden frame church in western Canada in continuous use since its dedication.
