Knox Presbyterian Church (KPC)

We are the people who follow the example of Christ, seeking to spread love, compassion and God’s Good News to those around us.

Organized in 1899-1900, Knox is a congregation in the Presbytery of Assiniboia in the Synod of Saskatchewan within the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

Homesteaders began arriving in this area in 1892 and the actual settlement of the village of Weyburn began in 1899. The people wanted a place to worship and the first worship service for all denominations was held in the CPR station house in 1899. In that same year, property on which to build a church was donated by Mr. J. A. Knowling. In March of 1900, the first congregation, organized under the name of Knox Presbyterian Church, was organized by Rev. Samuel McLean from Moose Jaw.

Our unique historical building

Construction on our present church began in 1906 and it was dedicated in March, 1907. The design of our church was influenced by some of the older churches in Scotland.

Knox Church was named a Municipal Heritage Site on September 22, 2003.

Pulpit, choir loft and pipe organ

In 1928, a beautiful pipe organ was installed and is still a very important part of our worship service today. The arch above the pulpit reads, “This is the House of God and the Very Gate of Heaven”.

Some of the beautiful stained glass windows

The sanctuary was constructed with beautiful stained glass windows on either side, one that portrays Christ carrying a lamb in his arms with the passage “The Good Shepherd Giveth His Life For The Sheep” and the other portrays Christ standing at the door and knocking with the passage “Behold, I Stand At The Door And Knock”.

Knox Fellowship House was built in 1960 and is connected to the church. It serves as a gymnasium, office for the secretary/treasurer, church school classrooms, church social functions and various fundraising functions. We are making space for Jesus to move into our neighbourhood.

Throughout the years, three men and four women from our congregation have entered into fulltime service in The Presbyterian Church in Canada as ordained ministers, missionaries, and deaconesses serving in Canada and overseas.

We at KPC have always been committed to Christ’s ministry. At the same time, we appreciate abundance from God through balanced health in body, mind and spirit. Using Knox Hall, we have been and will be exploring cultural and educational activities including music, art, and sports. We are working for the expansion of kingdom of God here and now, and providing people with space to strengthen our impact on the community.

Inviting You To Serve Local Neighborhood

We welcome anyone who wants to organize community activities together with us related in music, sports, cooking, art, or any public interest, willing to serve on a volunteer basis through the sharing of knowledge and leadership, training and education. Your participation in initiatives will nourish and empower our local community.
