Bible study for the fall will be on Wednesday evenings.
We will meet at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, September 17th at Brookfield Church.
Then September 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29th. Places to be determined.
Anyone planning to be a part of this study, please let Rev. Cheryl know.
The theme will be compassion as it is presented in the book of Philippians using the book “Appreciate These Things. Eight Ways of Cultivating Compassion” written by Jill J. Duffield as a guide. Jill is a Presbyterian Minister in North Carolina. She was born in Nova Scotia and moved with her parents to North Carolina where she grew up. She is both a pastor in a congregation and a writer. In “Appreciate These Things”. She guides people on word studies of the qualities listed in Philippians 4:8. These qualities are whatever is: true, honourable, just, pure, pleasing, commendable, excellent and praiseworthy.
Jill feels that given the state of unhappiness and negative feeling evident in the world, that those who follow Jesus would do well to study those things that we pray for God to make real to us (Philippians 4:4-7).
Rev. Cheryl has been a part of a study group that used another of her books, “Lent in Plain Sight” and found it to be interesting and helpful in the way it brought truth home. Rev, Cheryl looks forward to what she has to teach in “Appreciate These Things”
Pick a hymn that speaks to your heart, or is a favourite, then pass along your selection to Rev Cheryl by writing down the title and which congregation, then leave it in the offering plate. When it best fits with the scriptures it will be sung that Sunday in that church.
